Below is a beginner's guide for sewing cargo pants. 

Pre-Care

1. Choose the Appropriate Material

Fabric & Thread
There's a few considerations when choosing your fabric for cargo pants:

• Durable to withstand daily wear (walking, running, sitting, etc)
• Densely woven because it tends to translate to stronger fabric
• A bit of natural stretch and elasticity to allow for movement without losing its shape or getting stretch out over time
• Wrinkle resistant (thicker, synthetic fibres tend to be more wrinkle-resistant than thinner fabric made from 100% natural fibres)

The DIY Kits come with poly cotton twill because it is typically more durable than 100% cotton and less likely to lose its shape. 

As per the Glory Allan pattern, you'll need:

Poly Cotton Twill Fabric: 3.0 yards 

Broadcloth Fabric (for pockets): 0.25 yards of 60" bolt / 0.50 yards of a 45" bolt

2" Interfacing: 3.25 yards 

30L Buttons: 10 pieces

All Purpose Polyester Thread: 250 yards minimum

2. Wash the Fabric

A general rule for every sewing project is to wash the fabric before construction. This helps pre-shrink it and set the dye. All cotton products will have natural shrinkage, so it's best to take the safe route. 

Remember to:

• Unfold the fabric before loading in the machine
• Don't overcrowd the machine
• Wash like you would wash the final pants

This will depend on the fabric you're using, but the most common stitch setting is:
